Claudia Karvan (born May 19, 1972 in Sydney ) is an Australian actress .

Life and accomplishments

Karvan made her debut in the Australian drama Molly from 1983. Her role in the drama High Tide (1987) earned her her first nomination for the Australian Film Institute Award in 1987 . Three years later she was nominated for the same award for her leading role in the comedy The Big Claw (1990) and again in 1992 for the lead role in the thriller Redheads (1992). In 1996, she received another nomination for the AFI Award for the lead role in the comedy My beloved enemy ( Dating the Enemy , 1996), in which it alongside Guy Pearce was seen. In 1996 she received the Australian Film Institute Award for her appearance on the television series GP . For her role in the television drama Janine - Contest with Destiny (1998), Karvan was nominated for the AFI Award in 1998 and the Logie Award in 1999. In the comedy Strange Planet (1999) she took on one of the leading roles alongside Naomi Watts . The role in the musical drama Passion (1999) earned her an AFI Award nomination in 1999 and the Film Critics Circle of Australia Award in 2000 .

From 2001 to 2003, Karvan appeared in the television series The Secret Life of Us , which she also directed at times. Her acting performance earned her in 2001, 2002 and 2003 nominations for the Australian Film Institute Award . In 2002, 2003 and 2004 she was nominated four times for the Logie Award , which she received in 2003. From 2004 to 2007 she played a leading role in the television series Love My Way , where she also worked as a producer and screenwriter. This work brought her a total of five AFI Awards and one further nomination for this award between 2005 and 2007; she also received the Logie Award in 2006 and was nominated for the same award in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Karvan has a daughter born in 2001, a son born in 2006, and a stepdaughter.
