Long Weekend is a 2008 Australian horror film . It is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, Long Weekend .

action

Peter and Carla are a successful couple who have problems in their marriage. To save the marriage, the two want to spend a weekend camping by the sea. Peter gets some $ 10,000 equipment and they drive off. On the way there, they are not very careful with the environment and simply dispose of their waste through the car window and run over crabs and a kangaroo. As soon as they arrive, Carla is gossiping about the area. She would have much preferred to stay in an expensive hotel and in the following period is mainly concerned with her manicure . After the tent is set up, the first ants are killed with insect repellent and beer bottles are thrown into the area. Peter then goes surfing on the water while Carla gets bored more and more. Later, Carla throws an eagle's egg on the tree and Peter cuts a tree to prove he is a real man.

When Carla discovers a black shadow in the water, Peter shoots it. In the further course it turns out that it was a manatee that lives on and on as if she were immortal. The whole atmosphere is getting creepier. While searching for more campers on the beach, Peter discovers an abandoned and devastated camp, a wrecked car with a female corpse that has partially sunk into the lagoon. The relationship between the spouses also deteriorates to the point of open violence. In addition, Peter is becoming more and more insane. Carla tries to escape in the car, but cannot find her way out of the maze. Escape is impossible because the navigation device does not show any routes. When Peter wakes up at the campsite the next morning after a restless night, the dead manatee is lying right in front of him. Panicked, he escapes and finds the abandoned off-road vehicle not far away and next to it the dead Carla who died from a harpoon. Peter continues to run in panic, finally finds his way back onto the street and is run over by a truck whose driver was distracted by an owl fluttering into the driver's cab.
