Colón is a province in Panamá with the capital of the same name, Colón . The population of the province is 241,928 (2010 census).

The province lies on the Atlantic coast and is divided by the Panama Canal . The region has always been shaped by the Isthmus of Panama , the narrowest isthmus on the American continent. The economic center is the free trade zone in Colón.

The province of Colón was founded in 1855. The name Colón is derived from the Spanish name for Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón).

The province of Colón is in turn divided into five districts ( distritos ):

  1. Chagres
  2. Colón
  3. Donoso
  4. Portobelo
  5. Santa Isabel
