history

The history of Colbún begins in the early 1980s with the construction of the Colbún and Machicura power plants by the then state electricity supplier Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA Chile (ENDESA). In April 1986, Empresa Electrica Colbun Machicura SA (EEC) is spun off from ENDESA. On September 1, 1986, the EEC is registered as a stock corporation. The name of the company is changed to Colbún SA in 2001 . In 2005 Colbún merged with Hidroeléctrica Cenelca SA , making Minera Valparaíso SA the main shareholder of Colbún.
