Cole Ranch AVA (recognized April 15, 1983) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area extends over the administrative area of Mendocino County . Cole Ranch is a sub-zone of a total of three parent AVA's: Mendocino AVA , Mendocino County and the North Coast AVA .

At just 45 acres, it is the smallest Protected Designation of Origin in the United States. The American Viticultural Area is located between the Russian River and the Anderson Valley . The entire area under vines belongs to a single winery , the Esterlina Winery, which sells part of its grape harvest to other estates. Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Riesling are the most important grape varieties in the region.
