Colin Jacobsen
Colin Jacobsen (* 1978 ) is an American violinist.
Jacobsen began his violin training at the age of four with Doris Rothenberg , continued it with Louise Behrend and later at the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School of Music . He attended Josef Gingold's summer courses for two years , studied at the Juilliard School with Robert Mann until 1999 and with Vera Beths at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague from 2001-02 .
Since then Jacobsen has appeared as a soloist with various symphony orchestras in the USA and as a chamber musician. To mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the School of String , he played the world premiere of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich's Partita for violin and string orchestra in Carnegie Hall . With his brother Eric Jacobsen he founded the Knights , a chamber orchestra that recorded two CDs for Sony Classics and performed at the Dresden Music Festival.
As a member of Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble , he worked with the Kamantche player Kayhan Kalhor and the singer Alim Qasimov . He worked on the albums When Strangers Meet , Beyond the Horizon , New Impossibilities and Off the Map and arranged an old Persian song for the ensemble under the title Ascending Bird .
As a member of the Brooklyn Rider string quartet with violinist Jonathan Gandelsman , violist Nicholas Cords and his brother Eric Jacobsen, he founded the Stillwater Music Festival in Minnesota in 2006 and performed a. a. at the Banff Center for the Arts , at the Bravo! Colorado Music Festival , the Marlboro Music Festival , the Mostly Mozart Festival and the Salzburg Festival . Jacobsen has also performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center , is a member of the Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert and has performed chamber music with Emanuel Ax , Joshua Bell , Mark O'Connor , Philip Glass , Steven Isserlis , Christian Tetzlaff and Jan Vogler .
Jacobsen toured China with the composer Tan Dun and performed his Water Passion . He has also performed with ballet groups such as the New York City Ballet , the Mark Morris Dance Group and the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company . For the C. Eule Dance he composed the music for Spiral Songs and performed it in 2005. Jacobsen plays a violin by Giuseppe Giovanni Guarneri from 1696 and an instrument by Samuel Zygmuntowicz from 2008.
