Jonathan Gandelsman

Jonathan Gandelsman (* 1978 ) is a Russian violinist.

Gandelsman was a violin student of Maya Glesarova in Russia . In 1990 he emigrated to Israel and from there went to the USA, where he studied at the Curtis Institute of Music . He performed as a soloist a. a. with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra , the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Vienna Philharmonic , the Orchestra di Maggio di Fiorentina , the Orchestra de Padova e del Veneto , the Polish Radio Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductors such as David Zinman , Zubin Mehta , Yehudi Menuhin , Shlomo Mintz , Daniel Oren , David Alan Miller , Miguel Harth-Bedoya , Larry Rachleff , David Shallon , Paolo Olmi , Aldo Ceccato , Leopold Hager and Tadeusz Strugała .

Soloists with whom he has worked include Osvaldo Golijov , Suzanne Vega , James Levine , Alim Qasimov and Fargana Qasimova , Martin Hayes , Christina Courtin , Jenny Scheinman and Mark Morris's Dance Company . He gave concerts with Nigel Kennedy and recorded works by Bach and Bartók with him . Between 1998 and 2002 he performed with the conductor James Levine and the cellists Lynn Harrell and Frans Helmerson at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. Between 1997 and 2001 he was concertmaster in David Goodman's Wild Ginger Philharmonic , which also included Nicholas Cords , Colin Jacobsen and Eric Jacobsen .

Gandelsman has been a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble since 2000 . He worked on his albums Off the Map , New Impossibilities and Beyond the Horizon and took part in the ensemble's concert tours through the USA, Europe and Asia. With Max Treitler , Gandelsman started the series of events In a Circle in New York in 2003 , in which, in addition to Western classical music, rock, folk, bluegrass and Asian music are performed and works by visual artists such as Mary Frank , Kevork Mourad , Lennie Peterson and Guillermo Resto were shown.
