Christina Courtin

Christina Courtin (* 1984 in Buffalo ) is an American violinist and singer-songwriter .

Live and act

Courtin began playing the violin at the age of three, soon became interested in composition and began performing as a singer. She studied at the Juilliard School and then worked with many renowned musicians in the field of modern folk and alternative pop music and jazz, including the Dirty Projectors , Sara Watkins , The Knights , Nick Cave , Paul McCartney , Breastfist , Nick Thune , Marianne Faithfull , Yo-Yo Ma , Osvaldo Golijov , Sufjan Stevens , Antony and the Johnsons , Marc Ribot , Iron & Wine , Sara Bareilles and Teddy Thompson .

As a composer, Courtin wrote pieces for the Five Boroughs Songbook Festival , the Brooklyn Rider's 'Almanac' and for Kimball Gallagher . Dawn Upshaw sang her song Gypsy Girl in 2014 . In 2009 she released her first album under the title Christina Courtin on the Nonesuch label . Her second album Varsity was released in 2013 on Hundred Pockets Records . She has been Professor of Songwriting at Dartmouth College since 2014 .
