Eric Jacobsen (cellist)
Eric Jacobsen (* 1982 ) is an American cellist and conductor.
Jacobsen studied at the School for Strings and the Juilliard School of Music . His teachers included Harvey Shapiro , David Soyer and Ardyth Alton . As a soloist he performed a. a. with the Chamber Soloists of Austin , the Riverside Orchestra , the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra , the Greenwich Village Orchestra , the Lake George Chamber Orchestra and the Woodstock Festival Orchestra .
With his brother, the violinist Colin Jacobsen , the violinist Jonathan Gandelsman and the violist Nicholas Cords , Jacobsen forms the string quartet Brooklyn Rider . In 2008 the quartet released the album Silent City with Kamantsche player Kayhan Kalhor . He also founded the chamber ensemble The Knights with his brother , which performs internationally and has so far released two CDs with Sony Classics . Jacobsen is also a member of Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble , with whom he a. a. performed in Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, India and Japan and contributed to the albums New Impossibilities and Off the Map .
Jacobsen's other chamber music partners are Renée Fleming , with whom Zankel Hall opened in 2004 and in David Letterman's late-night show , the Armenian duduk player Gevorg Dabaghyan and the flautist Paula Robison . During a concert tour through Germany in 2009 he performed works by Osvaldo Golijov with Dawn Upshaw .
As a conductor, Jacobsen u. a. a concert with singer-songwriter Christina Courtin at the Brooklyn Lyceum , a performance of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony with the Knights, and a Beethoven program at the Tilles Center in Long Island and the Washington Irving School in Manhattan. He has also directed concerts at the Childrens Orchestra Society and New York University , where he teaches cello and chamber music.
