Colin Stamford Crouch

Colin Stamford Crouch (born October 14, 1956 in Bushey , † April 16, 2015 in London-Harrow ) was an English chess player ( international master ) and author of 15 chess books.

Life

Crouch became a member of the Chess Club in Harrow, London, in 1970 and won the British U16 Championship in 1972 and the U18 Championship in 1974. In 1991 he became International Master (IM), his highest Elo number was 2448. He reached this number in July 2000.

Crouch studied geography , first at the University of Cambridge , then at the University of Durham , where he earned a Ph.D. with a thesis on unemployment in mining operations. PhD . He was an active member of the Fabian Society and the Labor Party .

In 2004, Crouch suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered and has been severely visually impaired ever since. He then played against both sighted and blind chess players . At two Chess Olympiads for the blind, he played on the first board of the English national team (2008 and 2012). Then he gave up the game against the blind because their skill level was too low.

In the Four Nations Chess League , Crouch played in the first and second team of the Barbican Chess Club until 2002 , with which he also participated in the European Club Cup in 1996 and 1997 , in the 2003/04 season for the North West Eagles , from 2005 to 2007 for Hilsmark Kingfisher and in the 2013/14 season for e2e4.org.uk .
