Colombana Nera

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Colombana Nera is a red wine variety that is cultivated in the Italian region of Tuscany . Although their cultivation is recommended in the province of Massa-Carrara and is approved in the provinces of Pisa , Lucca , Livorno and Pistoia , the planted vineyard area was a moderate 141 hectares in the 1990s . This grape variety is a natural cross between the Mammolo and Sciaccarello varieties.

According to the ampelographers Nino Breviglieri and Enrico Casini, the grape variety was similar to the Besgano Nero variety , but not identical. According to today's definition, however, these are clones of the same variety.

The wines of the Colombana Nera grape are included in the DOC wines Colli di Luni .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy with white wool and the tips are colored carmine red. The whitish young leaves are hairy like a cobweb.
  • The medium-sized, almost pentagonal leaves are five-lobed and deeply indented. The stem bay is open in the shape of a lyre. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are set very closely compared to other grape varieties.
  • The pyramidal grape is medium to large in size, shouldered and dense berries. The slightly oval berries are medium to large in size and bluish-black in color. The berries are very juicy and have a neutral taste.

The grape variety ripens approx. 25-30 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late in international comparison. In Tuscany it can be harvested at the end of September.

The wine made from the Colombana Nera grape is light colored and generally of medium quality.
