Communium rerum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Communium rerum is an encyclical from Pope Pius X. It dates from April 21, 1909 and is dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Anselm of Aosta .

About the reasons

The Pope states that special occasions inspired him to write this encyclical in honor of Saint Anselm of Aosta or Anselm of Canterbury. He mentions: The centenary of the Church in North America , the understanding with Great Britain and his gratitude for the changes in France . This is the triumph over the turning away from heresy to God; and what he had wished for in his inaugural encyclical E supremi apostolatus of October 4, 1903 , has now happened . Pius X describes his gratitude for the return of the nations to Christ and the closer community to the Church.

About the saint

It is therefore not inappropriate to refer to the great work of Saint Anselm of Aosta , whose 800th year of death returns. The monk and abbot in France and later Archbishop of Canterbury had set an example of how to stand against the currents. He pays tribute to the philosophical work of this Doctor of the Church ( declared Doctor of the Church by Pope Clement VI in 1720 ) and the canonization by Pope Alexander VI. in the year 1494. He describes this saint as a resistance fighter who, despite being banished, promoted the spread of Christianity.
