E supremi (apostolatus) is one of Pope Pius X issued the encyclical .

The encyclical published on October 4, 1903 was the inaugural encyclical of the new Pope. In his circular he expressed his profound appreciation for his election as Pope through the words of Anselm of Canterbury , which he used on the occasion of his calling as Archbishop of Canterbury . At the same time he paid tribute to his predecessor Pope Leo XIII. expressly as someone "who ruled the church with the greatest wisdom for almost 26 years, whose vigorous intellectual power and rich, flawless virtuosity aroused admiration even from the enemy and glorified the glory of his name through brilliant successes."

He put his pontificate through the encyclical under the motto "Omnia restaurare in Christo" ("renew everything in Christ") with the aim that "Christ is all in all".

He saw the then current situation as overloaded with problems such as wars that could even lead to the end of days.

As a remedy, he wished to cultivate spiritual needs and to emphasize the attitude of the Catholic Church to marriage, upbringing, respect for property and the maintenance of law and order in the social classes . In doing so, people should not reject God in order to find peace, but seek the assistance of Jesus Christ in order to find their way back to obedience to God. He saw it as an ecclesiastical task to lead people back to the ecclesiastical spirit.

He also stressed the importance of training priests through the acquisition of the highest moral standards in seminaries . The priests should become the image of Christ (in Latin : " Curarum haec prima sunto, ut Christum formemus in iis, qui formando in ceteris Christo officio muneris destinantur ."), Who , like the faithful , must be constantly guided by the bishops .
