history

The predecessor of Extended Air Defense Task Force (EADTF), originally called "US / NL / GE Extended Air Defense Task Force" was a command authority and tri-national military staff for tactical air defense , consisting of 34 soldiers from Germany, the Netherlands and the United States was . The staff was formed on August 2, 1999 in the German Siegerland barracks in Burbach , the official opening ceremony was on December 3, 1999. The legal basis is an agreement between the three states with the purpose of extended air defense within the framework of the Roland / Patriot - Follow-up agreement. Due to the increasing spread of missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicles ( UAVs ), but also ever faster and smaller manned aircraft with extensive armament and high accuracy, the defense ministers of the three participating states agreed with the EADTF to supplement traditional air defense. For this purpose, all three states have the MIM-104 Patriot missile defense system, a weapon system for air defense. The EADTF's task was to plan, prepare and carry out joint training and exercise activities. The aim is to support the compatibility and interoperability of the national air defense systems and to intensify cooperation.

In July 2004 the headquarters of the EADTF was relocated from Burbach to Heidelberg . In 2004 the EADTF had around 418,000 euros available as a budget, the German contribution to the staff amounted to 176,000 euros. In July 2008, the EADTF was relocated to Ramstein Air Base in the Allied Air Command Ramstein (AIRCOM).

From March 14 to 23, 2005, the EADTF also took part in the NATO- Russia air defense exercise "Collaborative Arrow 05" at the Dutch Air Force Base De Peel near Deurne on the basis of the TMD Systems Interoperability Project , a cooperation between NATO and Russia in the field of tactical air defense.

After the US withdrew in July 2008, the EADTF only consisted of 16 soldiers, 5 from the Netherlands and 11 from Germany. From the beginning of 2011, soldiers from France, Poland and the USA with "observer status" were also admitted to the EADTF.
