Concepción Tutuapa is a village and a municipality in the department of San Marcos in Guatemala . The place is about 320 km northwest of Guatemala City and almost 60 km north of the departmental capital San Marcos in the highlands of the Sierra Madre at an altitude of 2,910 meters.

Concepción Tutuapa can be reached from San Marcos via a country road that leads east of the Tajumulco volcano via La Grandeza, Serchil and Tejutla to the remote north of the department. Around 60,000 people live in the 176 km² municipality, the vast majority of them in rural areas. Subsistence farming is the rule, crafts play a subordinate role. In addition to the main town, the municipality consists of the rural communities (Aldeas) Belajuyape, Chipomal, Huispache, Ixcamiche, Nimchim, Saquichinlaj, Sichivila, Sochel, Talhuito, Tictucabe, Tuichuna, Tuimuca, Tuizmo, Tutuapa and Yamoj as well as a total of over 100 hamlets. The main town of the municipality was originally Tutuapa, but in 1908 it was moved to today's place five kilometers away. The majority of the population belongs to the Mam - Maya on, which is also reflected in the names. As is so often the case in Central America, the name Concepción Tutuapa consists of a Spanish-colonial part with religious references ( Concepción refers to the Immaculate Conception , which is celebrated on December 8th) and an older indigenous part ( Tutuapa means something like "bird river "Or" River of Birds ").

Neighboring municipalities are San Miguel Ixtahuacán in the east, Ixchiguán in the south, San José Ojetenam in the west and the municipalities Cuilco and San Idelfonso Ixtahuacán in the north, which already belong to the neighboring Huehuetenango department .
