Concrete blonde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Concrete Blonde is an American alternative - rock band . They had their greatest successes in the late 1980s. After they separated in 1995, they reunited in 2001.

history

In 1982 the singer-songwriter and bassist Johnette Napolitano founded the band Dream 6 with guitarist James Mankey in Los Angeles . They released an EP in 1983 on a French label and were signed in 1986 by the American music label IRS Records . Michael Stipe , who at the same time was under contract with the IRS label with his group REM , suggested the band name Concrete Blonde, which should clarify the contrast between the somewhat harder rock music and the softer, more contemplative lyrics . Her first, self-titled album was released that same year.

The drummer Harry Rushakoff was on their most commercially successful album Bloodletting (1990) and in some songs by Mexican Moon from the Roxy Music replaced -Drummer Paul Thompson, as he was due to drug addiction at a clinic. In 2002 Rushakoff was replaced by Gabriel Ramirez.

Also in 1990 the song Joey was used in the TV version of the Schimanski crime scene Zabou . In 1995 the group split up in 2001 with the same line-up and recorded a new album.
