Concrete Genie is an action adventure game from the American game developer Pixelopus , which will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on October 9, 2019 . Pixelopus, who previously developed the game Entwined , is part of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios , the umbrella organization for all computer game development companies of the console manufacturer Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). The game was announced on October 30, 2017 at Paris Games Week .

The protagonist of the game is the boy Ash, who lives in the once thriving coastal town of Denska. His homeland was struck by a mysterious darkness some time ago and has largely been abandoned by the inhabitants since that incident and has degenerated into a gray, filthy place. Ash drives away the boredom in the desolate surroundings with drawings that he makes in his notebook and the dream of reliving the happy past. One day Ash meets a group of young people who spend the time vandalizing themselves, for example destroying windows and street lights. As soon as the troublemakers discovered Ash, he too is the target of aggression. They harass him, tear pages from his notebook and force him into a cable car that leads to an abandoned lighthouse. There he finds a magical brush with which he can bring his drawings to life. The aim of the game is to paint the gray facades and walls with colorful paintings in order to make Denska a livable and friendly place again. In addition to the creative aspects of painting, the game also picks up serious topics such as environmental pollution and bullying .
Gameplay
In addition to free drawings on the walls, the player also creates magical creatures, the so-called geniuses (English: spirit, genie in a bottle) with brushstrokes. These prove to be valuable helpers with unique skills. For example, a genius can open doors that have previously been locked by driving a motor with electrical power or by burning a wooden barricade with flames. The geniuses also offer protection from the group of youngsters who keep pursuing Ash and stealing his magic brush. If Ash meets the hostile teenagers, he can lure them away or escape by climbing on the roofs of houses. In the course of the game the player looks for the torn out pages of the notebook and thus gets more and more options to work on the beautification of the city with the living colors and to create more geniuses with new skills. At certain intervals Ash also meets shadowy geniuses with whom he has to fight in order to advance further in the game.
The character Ash is controlled with the DualShock-4 controller of the PlayStation 4 . Using the gyro control, in which an accelerometer and a built-in gyroscope determine the movements of the controller in the room, the drawings and geniuses are painted on the walls using collectible templates or your own ideas and brought to life. Concrete Genius is an action adventure game with puzzle and Jump 'n' Run -elements when Ash moving over the rooftops of the city.
PlayStation VR
Concrete Genie also includes two different VR modes that support the head-mounted displays of PlayStation VR . Two PlayStation Move motion controllers are then used for control.
