Conor Maguire

Conor Alexander Maguire (born December 16, 1889 in Cong , † September 26, 1971 in Dublin ) was an Irish lawyer and politician of the Fianna Fáil .

Career

Maguire was first elected to the Irish House of Commons in the February 1932 general election as a member of the National University of Ireland constituency. He was re-elected in the January 1933 elections.

In March 1932 he was appointed Attorney General of the Irish Free State. In November 1936, he resigned the office and his political mandate to follow his appointment as a judge of the High Court . In 1946 he was named Chief Justice of Ireland , President of the Supreme Court . He remained in this position until 1961. From September 27, 1965 to January 20, 1971, he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights .
