William FitzGerald (judge)
William O'Brien FitzGerald (born 1906 in Cork , County Cork , † October 17, 1974 ) was an Irish judge and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1973 to 1974 .
biography
After attending school, he studied law at Belvedere College in Dublin and received 1,927 admission to a lawyer at King's Inns . During his subsequent work as a lawyer, he acquired the reputation of an astute cross-examiner and master of litigation tactics. In 1944 he was admitted to the Inner Bar and thus as Senior Counsel .
In 1966 he was appointed judge on the Supreme Court. After the resignation of Cearbhall Ó Dálaigh , who became a judge at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) after Ireland joined the European Communities , FitzGerald succeeded him as Chief Justice of Ireland. He held this office until his sudden and unexpected death.
