Conrad Grefe

Conrad Grefe (born November 7, 1823 in Vienna , † August 16, 1907 in Tulbing ) was an Austrian painter , lithographer and writer .
Life
Grefe studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1837 to 1844 . After completing his studies, he initially worked as a landscape painter, but then increasingly switched to lithographs and etchings. In addition, he was instrumental in the development of the zinc flat printing process, with which templates such as oil paintings could be printed in high quality. Grefe used this process to publish a number of portfolios with the representation of art-historically significant buildings, but also landscapes in his own lithographic institute in Vienna, which was documented from 1880 to 1891. He used his own works as well as those of other artists as templates for the prints.
He was particularly interested in the representation of the Austrian Alps. From 1862 to 1873 he was a board member of the Austrian Alpine Club and was also part of the editorial team of the yearbook of the Austrian Alpine Club , for which he also contributed numerous illustrations.
Grefe was also active as a writer and historian and published a. a. also on the Jewish history of Vienna.
