Conrad Zellweger (* 28. September 1664 in Trogen , † 10. July 1741 in Trogen; heimatberechtigt in Trogen) was a Swiss state governor, bailiff and Diet envoy from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Conrad Zellweger was a son of Conrad Zellweger and Elsbeth Sturzenegger. In 1689 he married Agnes Tanner, daughter of the innkeeper Bartholome Tanner. Like his father and father-in-law, he was probably an innkeeper. From 1702 to 1710 he was provincial governor and from 1710 to 1732 mayor and delegate of the Diet. In 1714 Zellweger headed the Ausserrhoder delegation to sign the Rorschach peace treaty with Zurich and Bern . This led to violent internal political disputes between the two political camps of the Linden (dialect lind = gar, soft), who supported the peace treaty, and the Harten , who rejected it. From 1732 to 1734 these disputes culminated in the so-called land trade . The tough overthrew the government. In addition, Zellweger was given a heavy fine and declared incapable of government for life. In order to mitigate the punishment, he always tried sincerely for a balance and peace as well as for the well-being of the country.
