history

Container ship CMA CGM Vela (built as Conti Jupiter )
Columbus cruise ship
The Pillnitz paddle steamer operated by the Saxon Steamship Company, whose fleet of nine paddle steamers is considered the oldest and largest in the world.

The Cosima Reederei , founded in Munich in 1970, is the forerunner of the Conti-Reederei and is one of the oldest initiators of ship investments in the form of closed funds . After the transfer to the Conti shipping company with the takeover of all ships in 1979, the shipping company grew steadily. In addition to container ships , bulk carriers and tankers were financed and managed.

In 1992, the Saxon Steamship , which was in economic difficulties and is also known as the White Fleet, was taken over by Conti and successfully renovated. Today it trades under the name Sächsische Dampfschiffahrts GmbH & Co. Conti Elbschiffahrts KG .

In 1997, Conti, together with other shareholders, took over the Columbus cruise ship , which was chartered to Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten until May 2012 . Since then, the ship has been sailing as Hamburg for plantours & Partner, who have chartered it for six years with an option to buy. In 1998 the river cruise ships Primadonna and Johannes Brahms were taken over. The Conti Everest counted in 2004 with 8,240  TEU of the largest container ships in the world. In 2005 the first tonnage tax fund was offered. The Conti Jupiter , which went into service in 2008 , was the largest container ship under the German flag at 10,960 TEU.

Conti today

At the end of 2010 there were 92 ships in the fleet. The majority of the ships sail under the German flag because the ships are financed by tonnage tax funds. In 2011, Conti Reederei was the second largest provider of closed-end ship funds in Germany after Nordcapital in terms of equity placed . In 2011 the company placed EUR 72.1 million in equity.

The management of the Conti ships is mainly carried out by the NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft in Buxtehude and, since 2002, also by the Bremer Bereederungsgesellschaft in Bremen. The Conti Group has a direct interest in both companies. She also holds shares in H. Schuldt Shipbrokers , a company for chartering and chartering as well as buying and selling ships. Around 2,600 people are employed on board the Conti ships, compared to 94 in the company in Munich in 2009.

In March 2017, the Conti group of companies was sold to the Hamburg shipping company Claus-Peter Offen , which it continues to run as an independent company in Hamburg.
