The Primadonna is a river cruise ship on the Danube and is operated by Donau Touristik GmbH.
history
The ship was built in 1998 as Delphin Queen at the Deggendorf shipyard and delivered on June 30th. The ship was christened on July 3, 1998 by Christiane Herzog , the wife of the then Federal President. The Delphin Queen was put into service on July 4th, 1998 after 19 months of construction.
Design, concept and design come from the planning group Deas. The client and first owner was Conti Flußschiffahrts-GmbH & Co KG , which chartered the ship to Delphin See- und Flußtouristik GmbH, but canceled the charter at the end of 2000. Since 2001 the ship has been sailing for Viking River Cruises under the name Primadonna . From 2013 to July 2015 the operator was Nicko Tours. In July 2015 Donau Touristik GmbH (Linz-Austria) bought this only river cruise catamaran in the world. The prima donna's sailing area is the Danube from Passau to Budapest .
Furnishing
The ship has 78 cabins for a total of 156 guests. 20 passenger cabins with balconies are arranged on the upper deck and in the middle deck. These 40 cabins were prefabricated as fully installed and equipped units. 38 other smaller cabins are located on the main deck.
The design of the double- hulled ship chosen for the Prima donna is unique for a river cruise ship .
accident
On December 12th, 2015, the prima donna collided with the cable bridge over which the lock controls lead when entering the left lock chamber of the Aschach power plant . The bridge buckled and crashed onto the upper deck of the ship. Significant property damage was caused to the lock and the infrastructure, as well as to the ship, and neither people nor the environment were harmed. Only after provisional cabling was installed could the right lock chamber resume operation and, after lifting the damaged cable bridge, the ship could be transferred to the Linz shipyard on its own. The lock chamber was closed to shipping until March 3, 2016 due to the necessary repair work.
