The CMA CGM Vela (ex Conti Jupiter ) is a post panamax class container ship . The owner is Conti 155. Container Schifffahrts-GmbH & Co. KG MS "Conti Jupiter" , a ship fund of the Munich-based Conti Holding . The ship is managed by the CPO container shipping company belonging to the Offen Group . The ship was chartered by the French shipping company CMA CGM and operates a liner service between Northern Europe and East Asia .

Surname

The ship was christened Conti Jupiter on October 2, 2008 . The name goes back to the Conti ship investment Ville de Jupiter . In 1986, the Ville de Jupiter was one of the first four ships to be chartered to the then Compagnie Maritime d'Affrètement (CMA). It was in use for eight years, was sold in 1994 and achieved a very good financial result for the shareholders.

CMA CGM named the ship after the constellation sails of the ship , Latin "Vela".

General data

The CMA CGM Vela was built at the Daewoo shipyard in Okpo , South Korea, under the supervision of NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft . The ship was laid down on April 28, 2008 . The float (see launch ) was on July 12, 2008, the delivery to the owner took place on October 17, 2008. The CMA CGM took over the ship on October 19, 2008.

The ship started sailing under the German flag. The home port of the ship was Hamburg until 2017 . In 2017 the ship was flagged to Portugal , the new home port was Madeira .

Technical specifications

The ship has a total length of 347.48 meters, a width of 45.20 meters, a draft of up to 15.50 meters and a carrying capacity of 130,700 tons. The gross tonnage (GT) is 128,600, the net tonnage (NRZ) 72,696. The gross and net room numbers according to the Suez Canal measurement letter are 130,392.48 and 114,078.26. According to the NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft, which had managed the ship until the Offen Group took over the Conti Group in 2017 , the number of container spaces is 10,960  TEU (20-foot container). Of these, 5,610 can be stored below and 5,350 on deck. Connections are available for 700 refrigerated containers, 570 on and 130 below deck. The loading capacity for loaded 20-foot containers weighing 14 tonnes is specified as 7,890 TEU. CMA CGM specifies the number of parking spaces at 11,040 TEU and the maximum number of loaded containers at 7,990 TEU.

The ship is powered by a marine diesel engine of the type MAN B&W 12 K 98 ME-C7 manufactured under license in South Korea with a total output of 68,520 kilowatts. The two-stroke - twelve-cylinder engine drives the ship at a speed of 104 revolutions per minute at a speed of 24.2  knots at. The bow thruster has an output of 3,000 kilowatts. Four diesel generators of the type Daihatsu 8DK-32C together generate an electrical output of 12,000 kilowatts.

Originally, the CMA CGM Vela was to have a total length of 346.5 meters and a width of 43.20 meters. The maximum container capacity would have been 9,710 TEU, and 7,040 TEU if loaded with 14-ton containers. The ship would then have reached a speed of 25.3 knots.

Contractual and financial framework

The construction contract for the new building under construction number DSME 4125 was concluded on April 25 and July 18, 2005 between CMA CGM and the shipyard . The Conti-Beteiligungsgesellschaft entered the contract on November 15, 2005 in place of CMA CGM. A construction price of 136.3 million US dollars (USD) was agreed for the ship . The original equipment, which included lashing material for fastening the containers, spare parts, furnishings and communication and navigation aids, and the ancillary construction costs were estimated at 1.3 million euros . The new ship was financed with 57.95 million euros from the equity fund and 89.0 million USD from ship mortgage loans.

The CMA CGM Vela was chartered out until 2020 with an option for a further three years. The agreed daily charter rate is USD 35,100 plus EUR 13,455 for the first three years, USD 51,650 for the fourth to seventh years and USD 45,800 thereafter. After the charter contract expires, CMA CGM has the option to buy the ship. The agreed purchase price is $ 56 million after a twelve year charter and $ 51 million after a fifteen year charter plus a difference of 25.5 percent to a higher market value, but at least $ 60 or 54.5 million.
