The Continental Bakeries BV is a pastry company based in Dordrecht in the Netherlands .

The seat of the German subsidiary is in Gronau in Westphalia . The firm had been owned by NPM Capital, the private equity arm of SHV Holdings , since 2006 . In June 2016, the takeover by the investment bank Goldman Sachs and the investor group Silverfern took place. Grabower Süßwaren GmbH has been part of Continental Bakeries since 2010 .

The company has eleven factories across Europe with 1200 employees. The annual turnover is around 280 million euros. The company owns brand names like Haust, Grabower, Brinky and Bussink. The products include all kinds of baked goods, u. a. like the Kurpfalzrolle double biscuit sold by Aldi-Nord.

history

In 1825, the company Haust, manufacturer of rusks and toasted bread, was founded in Amsterdam . The production of rusks began around 1870. In 1905 the Hooimeijer company was founded in Rotterdam , also a manufacturer of rusks. In 1933 she moved from Rotterdam to Barendrecht . Hait was taken over by Hooimeijer in 1959. In 1993 haust merged with the German company Hagemann from Gronau / Westphalia. Hagemann focused on Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. In 2003, Haust moved from Barendrecht to Dordrecht and three years later the company name was changed to Continental Bakeries BV . In 2008 Continental Bakeries Ungarn GmbH (formerly Auer Kft.) Left the Continental Bakeries group and took over Gillebagaren AB (oat biscuits "Ginger Snaps") from Åsljunga and Örkelljunga . The factory in Goirle was closed. In 2010 the Grabower Süßwaren GmbH was taken over .

  • 1997 Takeover of Pirouwafer (the start of production of rice cakes in 1998 ) from Oostmalle (Belgium).
  • In 1998 Auer Blaschke and Auer Kft. (Waffles) were taken over (Austria / Hungary), on August 1, 2013 these were resold to the Austrian food manufacturer Spitz .
  • 1999 Takeover of Barkhuis (honey cake) from Kielwindeweer (Netherlands)
  • In 2007, Continental Bakeries BV took over Stieffenhofer (shortbread cookies, seasonal gingerbread & cake bases) from Bassenheim / Koblenz-Güls and The Rice Cake Factory (rice cakes) from Ghislenghien (Belgium).
