history

Grabower kisses caramel

The company was founded in Grabow in 1835 as a bakery by Johann Bollhagen, which produced pretzels , waffles and pepper nuts . In 1902 it was taken over by Gustav Ritter , who expanded the sales area and began exporting.

In 1951, the company was transferred to public ownership and traded as VEB Grabower Dauerbackwaren. Mainly produced teacakes and pastries .

In 1991 the Schiesser Group took over the company, reduced the product range to foam kisses and automated production. Due to the problems with the implementation of the automation, Grabower ran into difficulties and had to file for bankruptcy in 1996. Otto Lithardt acquired the company and successfully implemented the modernization; Within a few years the company rose to become the market leader in the foam kisses segment in Germany.

Lithard expanded the company through further acquisitions to form the Grabower confectionery group. Baked goods, foam kisses, foam waffles and crispbread were produced at the Grabow , Arnstadt , Prichsenstadt , Kühren-Burkartshain and Herten locations. In 2010, the group achieved an annual turnover of over 100 million euros with 650 employees, 230 of them in the Grabow parent plant.

In 2010 the Grabower Süsswaren GmbH was taken over by Continental Bakeries along with several other acquisitions by Lithards .
