The Coos River is a river in Coos County in the western US state of Oregon , which flows into the Pacific Ocean .

The Coos River arises at the confluence of the Millicoma River and South Fork Coos River . It flows over a distance of 8 kilometers in a westerly direction and flows into the eastern end of Coos Bay , which is the estuary of the river. The towns of Coos Bay and North Bend are on the south bank of Coos Bay . At Charleston , the 23 km long and approximately 40 km² large estuary opens to the sea. The tidal current is noticeable up to the two source rivers. The catchment area of Coos Bay covers around 1600 km². It borders on the Coquille River to the south and the Umpqua River to the east and northeast . In the river system there are u. a. Silver salmon and steelhead trout .

Tributaries

The South Fork Coos River is the left headwaters of the Coos River. It arises at the confluence of the Williams River and Tioga Creek . The South Fork Coos River flows for 51 km in a predominantly westerly direction.

The Millicoma River forms the right source river of the Coos River, which flows 14 km to the southwest from the confluence of the West Fork and East Fork Millicoma River .
