Cor you buy
Cor du Buy (born January 8, 1921 in Amsterdam , † November 11, 2011 in Amstelveen ) was a Dutch table tennis player . In the 1940s and 1950s he was one of the top players in the Netherlands. For his services to table tennis he was awarded the ITTF Merit Award .
Career
Cor du Buy learned table tennis at home on the kitchen table in games against his father. At the National Dutch Championships from 1937 to 1955 he won 22 titles, namely nine in singles, eight in doubles and five in mixed. Because Jewish athletes were not allowed to take part in the championships during the Second World War , he boycotted these tournaments several times during this period. At the team championships he won 19 times with the club KKK Amsterdam and Sparta Amsterdam.
From 1938 to 1955 Cor du Buy was nominated eight times for world championships , but where he never came close to medal ranks. He played a total of 92 international matches.
In 1960 Cor du Buy emigrated to Australia, returned to the Netherlands in 1963 and worked there as a national coach for two years.
In 1939 he founded the company Cor du Buy Sport , which imported table tennis balls, stamped the company name on them and then sold them on. He also traded in other table tennis equipment. After the war, his brother Jaap took a share in the company. This was sold in 1979 and filed for bankruptcy in 1981. Cor du Buy later ran the De Bedriegertjes tennis school with his sons .
Honors
On June 18, 2011, Cor du Buy became a knight of the Dutch table tennis association NTTB. In May of this year, the world association ITTF recognized his services and awarded him the ITTF Merit Award .

Cor du Buy was married and had two sons.
