Cord messenger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cord messenger (also: Conrad or Konrad , Bothe , Latinized Botho ; * before 1475 in Wernigerode , † around 1501 in Braunschweig ) was a goldsmith, who as a possible author of a chronicle is considered on the Saxon princes, as Cronecken of Sassen is called .

Life

Bote was one of three children of Cord Bote the Elder and his wife Jutte, who owned a house in Wernigerode. His brothers were Johann and Jakob Bote. There is evidence that he lived in Braunschweig from 1475 to 1501, where he became a citizen in 1485 . He is considered to be the author of a chronicle that goes from the creation of the world to the year 1489. Due to the numerous colored pictures and coats of arms, it is also known as the "Lower Saxony Picture Chronicle" or "Cronicon picturatum". It has not been proven whether he or his relative Hermann Bote can be regarded as the chronicler of the work, which was probably created between 1489 and 1491, as the author remained anonymous. This work is considered the source of other writings such as the Saxonia by Albert Krantz , a chronicle by Hans Geismar from Goslar, the Saxon Chronica of Cyriacus Spangenberg . Other forms are a translation into High German by the Magdeburg pastor Johannes Pomarius or the edition by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz in his Scriptores rerum Brunsvicensium .
