The Cordillera Occidental in Bolivia is a section of the South American Andes - mountain range and forms the natural border with Chile .

The Cordillera Occidental is characterized by volcanic activity and extends from Jucuri in the north to the Licancabur volcano in the south.
The climate of the region is a cold high mountain climate and unsuitable for flora and fauna . Due to the geological history of the mountain range, the underground is rich in metals such as gold , silver , copper and other mineral resources.
