The Río Corneja is a 40 km long river that flows through the Spanish provinces of Avila and Salamanca ; it is the main tributary of the Río Tormes .

geography

The Río Corneja rises on the rainy north-western slopes of the Cerro del Santo in the Sierra de Gredos near one of St. Martin von Tours hermit chapel at an altitude of about 2100  m . It flows mainly in western directions and flows into the Río Tormes about 3 km south of the village of Puente del Congosto . On the way it takes in the water of several small streams (arroyos) .

Others

The upper course of the small river is well suited for fishing ( trout etc.). In the 18th century there were around 100 water mills on the banks for grinding grain - only a few of them still exist; several old stone bridges have also disappeared. A sudden flood in the spring of 1999 contributed to the destruction of several mills and bridges.

places

Molino de la Rata water mill (around 1995)
