The Río Tormes is a 247 km long river that flows through the Spanish provinces of Avila and Salamanca . Its catchment area (cuenca) covers a good 7,000 km².

geography

The Río Tormes has its source on the north side of the Sierra de Gredos in the province of Ávila and flows almost constantly in northern and northwestern directions. It flows into the Duero about 3 km north of the town of Villarino de los Aires in the province of Salamanca ; the estuary is also called Ambasaguas .

Reservoirs

The river did not carry enough water to adequately supply the villages on its banks in the summer months; therefore, at the end of 1960, the Santa Teresa reservoir was created with a volume of 496 million m³, which supplies the towns with water in summer and absorbs the large amounts of incoming water in winter. Furthermore, about 10 km before the mouth of the Tormes in the Duero, there is the dam of the 25 km long Almendra Dam .

Tributaries
