Cornelius Bergmann
Cornelius Bergmann (born January 26, 1881 near Samara , † October 28, 1951 in Jena ) was a Mennonite historian and philologist who was born into a Russian-German family. He attended schools near Samara and graduated from grammar school in Berdjansk , after which he studied history, German and philosophy in Leipzig, Berlin and Zurich. His dissertation on the Anabaptist movement in the canton of Zurich was published in 1916. Bergmann taught at the grammar school in Zuoz and then took up a position in publishing. He later translated classical Russian literature at the University of Jena. He was a citizen of Arvigo, where he was naturalized in 1921 for the sum of CHF 1,000.
