Sir Cornelius Hendricksen Kortright

Sir Cornelius Hendricksen Kortright , KCMG (* 1817 in London , † December 23, 1897 in Hillside, Barre, Ontario , Canada) served as governor and represented Queen Victoria in several British colonies.

Life

Cornelius Hendricksen Kortright, son of Lawrence and Jane Maria Kortright, was baptized on January 8, 1818 in St. Mary's Church on Marylebone Road , London.

From 1854 to 1857 he was President of the British Virgin Islands , then he was Lieutenant Governor of Grenada . From 1857 to 1864 he was Lieutenant Governor of Grenada then until 1872 of Lieutenant Governor of Tobago. During his tenure he campaigned unsuccessfully against the British government for electoral reforms in favor of the middle class on Tobago. From 1873 to 1875 was governor of Gambia and 1876 to 1877 governor of Sierra Leone. His last service as governor was in British Guiana from April 3, 1877 to December 13, 1881.

In 1882 Kortright was promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George .
