Cornelius Vander Starr

Cornelius Vander Starr (born October 15, 1892 in Fort Bragg (California) , † December 20, 1968 ) was an American entrepreneur . He founded the American International Group .

Life

The American was born in Fort Bragg, California, the son of a Dutch railroad worker. At 19, he sold ice cream and moved to San Francisco in 1914 . In 1918 he went to Yokohama , then Shanghai , to work in the insurance business as an employee of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company . In 1919 he founded the American International Group. In 1949, after the CCP's victory , he relocated to New York City .

The Foundation The Star Foundation was established in 1955. According to the statutes, the Foundation is active in education and other areas and has helped a. in establishing the CV Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience . The CV Starr East Asian Library at Columbia University was created by a gift from the Foundation in 1981; the CV Starr East Asian Library at the University of California, Berkeley was completed in October 2007.
