Corona Matura

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The changed form of the Austrian school leaving examination in 2020 was called the Corona Matura . This became necessary due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting school closings .

In order to be able to compensate for the lack of face-to-face teaching, the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research - or Education Minister Heinz Faßmann - announced and implemented various easements. Above all, this includes measures in the two pillars of the written and oral Matura.

With the announcement of the first school closings on March 11th, Education Minister Faßmann announced to Armin Wolf in ZiB 2 that the Matura would be postponed in the current school year: "It's clear where we are going. The dates will be extended and the Matura a bit moved backwards. " On March 17th, a more precise statement was made, the written school leaving examination should be postponed for at least two weeks - from May 5th to May 18th. In addition, it was made clear on 23 March that the high-school graduates - in preparation for the exams - should have the option of at least two weeks of face-to-face teaching at the schools; In addition, the order of the written examinations has been shifted, with the "correction-intensive" subject German being put first. In addition, only "essential" schoolwork should take place.

On March 25, federal school spokeswoman Jennifer Uzodike , member of the federal board of the ÖVP -near pupil union , announced that she would insist on holding the Matura, because "we don't want to be the year that is said to have received the Matura as a gift ". This gave them into an OTS - sending known.

The measures relating to the exact process of the final examination were announced by Faßmann at a press conference on April 8th . This included a further postponement of the first exam day to May 25th and the elimination of the oral Matura. This could be taken on a voluntary basis, otherwise the final grade in the respective subject was entered in the Matura certificate . In addition, the presentations of the pre-scientific work at the schools where these had not yet been held were omitted ; the grading was only based on the written work. The presentations should only be carried out if a negative assessment was threatened.

Another relief was the written Matura. This was only to be filed in three subjects; the students, who had originally chosen four subjects, got their final grade entered in their high school diploma. In addition, the grade of the written exam only counted to 50%, the other half resulted from the annual grade. If the assessment was then unclear, the exam grade "stood out" than the annual grade.
