geography
The place is about 10 km southwest of Gorizia and almost 2 km northeast of Mariano del Friuli on the orographic left side of the Torrente Versa and north of the Isonzo at 32 m slm. Only a few kilometers north is the well-known wine-growing region of Collio .
history
Until the First World War, Corona was part of the Fürstete Grafschaft Görz and Gradisca and thus part of the Habsburg monarchy . After the Italian entry into the war , Corona was evacuated by the Austro-Hungarian troops and the place was occupied by the Italian army in the run-up to the First Isonzo Battle in May 1915. Only after the twelfth battle of the Isonzo did Corona come under control of the Austro-Hungarian army. After the annexation to the Kingdom of Italy , the independent municipality of Corona was attached to the municipality of Mariano del Friuli in 1928 after the fascist municipal reform adopted in 1927 , on the basis of which over 2000 municipalities with fewer than 2000 inhabitants were incorporated.
