Corpset is a Finnish thrash and death metal band from Oulu that was founded in 1998 under the name Chakra .

history

The band was founded in 1998 under the name Chakra in Oulu by guitarists Jari Kelloniemi and Tommi Määttä. After two demos and a few public appearances, the cast fell apart. In 2004, Kelloniemi moved to Tampere and had already decided to sell his equipment and forget about a career in the music industry. However, he got to know the guitarist Jami Heikkala and both began to rehearse old chakra songs. They worked together on songs for over a year. In 2006 Timo Hanhijoki joined as a drummer. The group then went looking for a singer in Pirkanmaa and found him in the summer of 2008 with Antti Murtonen. At the end of 2009 the line-up was completed by Heikkala's work colleague Petri Palonkoski after using several temporary bassists. In the summer of 2009, songs for a debut album were recorded and mixed in several studios. This resulted in ten songs for the album as well as three songs for other purposes, which can, however , be listened to on the band's band camp site. After the group signed a record deal with Violent Journey Records on February 21, 2011 , the album Ruins was released in April . In 2012, the second album was recorded with producer Jussi Kulomaa in the MSTR studios , which was released in September 2013 under the name No Rest . A music video was also created for the song of the same name under the direction of Matti Kuusniemi .

style

According to Aleksie from metalreviews.com , the group plays Melodic Death Metal on Ruins in the style of Hypocrisy and later Carcass , paired with grooving riffs and guitar licks in the style of Slayer . In song could be parallels with the old-school - hardcore punk hear. The songs would often vary in speed and mood. Luxi Lahtinen from voicesfromthedarkside.de described the music on No Rest as a modern mix of Thrash and Death Metal. The previous album contained little memorable songs and, in addition to Thrash Metal, occasionally used Melodic Death Metal in the Gothenburg style, although Corpset sounded more aggressive. On the new album, the group further developed their sound, with occasional similarities to Slayer being audible.
