Macroscopic features
- The whole fruit body and thus the hat is colored dark blue to dark purple. The surface is tomentose to scaly.
- The stem is dark blue to dark purple.
- The lamellae of young mushrooms are tinted blue-violet, later they change color to a dark rusty brown due to the ripening spore powder.
- The spore powder is rusty brown.
Microscopic features
- Spores partially with plague (= clearly delimited area at the adhesion zone).
- Large, almost bottle-shaped cheilo- and pleurocystidia , 10–110 μm long.
- Vacuoles with violet pigment .
Ecology and phenology
The veils in the narrower sense grow on earth in the deciduous or coniferous forest. The time of publication is mainly from autumn to late autumn.
meaning
The dark purple veil and also the resin veil are considered edible, at least not poisonous. But they are usually rated as not tasty.
Systematics
- Dark purple veil ( C. violaceus ), under deciduous trees. The fungus that occurs worldwide is an "isolated" outsider, whose characteristics correlate little with other species of the largest agaric genus Cortinarius . Finds of C. violaceus in Japan, Central Europe, Australia (also New Guinea and New Zealand) and in North America are described.
- Resin veil , coniferous thick foot ( C. hercynicus ), slimmer than the dark purple veil, mainly found in coniferous forests. The differentiation between a deciduous forest clan C. violaceus and a coniferous forest clan Cortinarius hercynicus (Pers.) Mos. is still the subject of discussion.
