features
The head-banded catfish reaches a body length of 5 to 6 cm, is relatively high back and strongly flattened on the sides. It is from yellow-brown to reddish-white basic color with a lighter belly side. A wide black or blue-black band runs from the first dorsal fin rays over the base of the dorsal fin, obliquely downwards to the lower area of the caudal peduncle and ends in the lower caudal fin rays. Another black band extends from the back of the head to under the eyes. The fins are transparent and shimmer yellow. The head bandaged armored catfish differs from the very similar, partially in the same area occurring meta armored catfish ( Corydoras metae ) by the position of the black band and the larger number of bone shields on the body sides.
