Coryphantha calochlora is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet calochlora is derived from the Greek words kalos for 'beautiful' and chloros for 'green' and refers to the shiny green epidermis of the species.

description

Coryphantha calochlora usually grows singly and rarely branches from the base. The spherical to egg-shaped, dark green to blackish green shoots reach heights of up to 9 centimeters with diameters of 9 to 10 centimeters. The almost hemispherical warts are conical, the axillae bare. The areoles are initially covered with wool and later bald. The three to five central spines , which can sometimes be missing, are gray. The twelve to 15 whitish, up to 2 centimeters long radial spines are thin.

The whitish cream-colored to yellow flowers reach a diameter of 2.5 to 4 centimeters. The gray-green fruits are elongated and have lengths of up to 1 centimeter.

Distribution and systematics

Coryphantha calochlora is common in the Mexican state of Durango .

The first description by Friedrich Bödeker was published in 1933. Reto F. Dicht and Adrian D. Lüthy treated Coryphantha calochlora in 2001 as a synonym of Coryphantha nickelsiae .
