Cosmina Stratan (born October 20, 1984 in Iași ) is a Romanian journalist and actress . She gained fame through her feature film debut in the award-winning drama Beyond the Hills (2012).

biography

Cosmina Stratan grew up with a sister in Iași. The daughter of a doctor attended the renowned “Costache Negruzzi” school and the Alexandru Ioan University in her hometown, where she studied journalism and communication studies until 2009 . Stratan also worked for the weekly student newspaper Opinia Studențească and the local television station TVR Iași . After completing her studies, she moved to Bucharest and worked as a journalist for Antena 3 . Stratan appeared on the Romanian television station as a reporter for Vlad Petreanu's “Reporter special” format . Stratan's work earned him several awards.

From autumn 2008 Stratan switched to acting and completed a corresponding degree at the National University of Theater and Film Arts "Ion Luca Caragiale" (UNATC) in Bucharest . During her training, Stratan took on her first roles in short films .

After studying acting, Stratan made her feature film debut in 2012 with Cristina Flutur in Beyond the Hills by Cristian Mungiu , who had also previously worked for the Opinia Studențească . In the same year, the film received an invitation to compete at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival , where Stratan and Flutur were awarded the Actor Award of the Film Festival. For their portraits of Voichița and Alina, the competition jury headed by the Italian actor and director Nanni Moretti had given preference to actresses who were still untested in the cinema over well-known actresses such as Nicole Kidman ( The Paperboy ) or Marion Cotillard ( The Taste of Rust and Bones ). Stratan and Flutur are the first Romanian actresses to triumph in Cannes.
