Cristina Flutur (* 1978 in Iași ) is a Romanian theater and film actress . She gained notoriety through her film debut in the award-winning drama Beyond the Hills (2012).

biography

Cristina Flutur began studying languages at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in her hometown of Iași. After completing her studies in 2000, she switched to acting. Flutur began studying acting at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca , which she finished in 2004. Then she joined the ensemble of the National Theater "Radu Stanca" in Sibiu . There she appeared in both classic plays by Shakespeare and Chekhov ( Die Möwe , 2007; directed by Andrei Șerban ) as well as modern works by John Steinbeck and Eugène Ionesco . Flutur was also seen in contemporary Romanian performances such as Viaţa cu un idiot (2007, Eng. “Living with an Idiot”) directed by Andrij Scholdak . Flutur worked with such well-known directors as Silviu Purcărete , Vlad Massaci , Tompa Gabor and Gavriil Pinte .

In 2012, Flutur made her film debut with Cosmina Stratan in Cristian Mungius' film Beyond the Hills . In the same year, he received an invitation to compete at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival , where Flutur and Stratan were awarded the Actor Award of the film festival. For their portraits of Alina and Voichița, the competition jury headed by the Italian actor and director Nanni Moretti preferred the actresses, who were still untested in the cinema, to well-known actresses such as Nicole Kidman ( The Paperboy ) or Marion Cotillard ( The Taste of Rust and Bones ). Flutur and Stratan are the first Romanian actresses to triumph in Cannes.
