Cottonton is an unincorporated community in Russell County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

Cottonton is located in southeast Alabama in the southern United States. The place is about two kilometers west of the 690 kilometer long Chattahoochee River , which also forms the border with Georgia and merges into the Apalachicola River in Florida before it finally flows into the Gulf of Mexico .

Nearby locations include Omaha , Georgia (5 km east), Pittsview (9 km northwest), Glenville (9 km southwest), Eufaula (13 km south), and Cusseta , Georgia (16 km northeast). The next larger city with 205,000 inhabitants is the capital of Alabama, Montgomery, about 96 kilometers to the northwest .
