Crèvecœur is sponsored by the French Ministry of Defense, French documentary from the year 1955 by Jacques Dupont .
action
In the center of the action is the young French junior officer Garcet, who has just left the military academy and wants to join the French unit that goes to war on behalf of the United Nations against the communist North Koreans and their Red Chinese allies. In the beginning he is still very disappointed when they only want to use him as a liaison officer far from enemy lines. But then he is offered a combat command, and Garcet goes to the front with joyful anticipation.
Here he first has to prove himself to his own men and win their trust and friendship. Although the other French like Garcet have also volunteered to join the armed forces, most of them are at a loss when it comes to the question of what one is actually fighting for here, in this remote, secluded place. In the bloody battle of Heartbreak Ridge (September / October 1951) each of the young men has to prove himself.
