A creuza in Sant'Ilario , a district of Genoa .

Crêuza de mä is a studio album recorded in 1984 by the Italian cantautore Fabrizio De André . All songs are sung in the Ligurian dialect of De Andrés hometown Genoa . Crêuza de mä is the name for the winding paths lined with natural stone walls in Liguria that lead to the sea .

With this LP, De André turned to the then emerging world music based on the songwriting sound of the 1970s . While the lyrics are completely written by De André, the music is largely composed by Mauro Pagani (ex-singer of the progressive rock band Premiata Forneria Marconi and multi-instrumentalist ).

The texts revolve around the former harbor area of Genoa and tell of sailors, prostitutes and stranded people. However, historical events from different corners of the Mediterranean are also taken up, such as the story of the Genoese privateer Scipione Cicala, who was first in the service of Spain and then made a career on the Ottoman side as Cigalazade Yusuf Sinan Pasha after being captured by the Turks , or fate of the Lebanese port city of Sidon in the 1982 Lebanon War .

Musically, traditions from all over the Mediterranean come together on this album. Typical Mediterranean instruments such as the southern Italian mandolin , the Greek bouzouki and the Arabic oud are also used .

For the twentieth anniversary of the album, Mauro Pagani released a new version under the name 2004 Crêuza de mä . In this album, the song Sidún is also sung in Hebrew and Arabic . New songs are Al fajr ( dawn ), Quantas sabedes and Nuette ( inspired by Alkman ). Mégu megún comes from the album Le Nuvole .
