Cracker is an American alternative rock - band , the 1991 by Camper Van Beethoven singer David Lowery and guitarist was founded Johnny Hickman. Their music is significantly influenced by the blues and country music .

history

Singer and guitarist David Lowery was guitarist for Camper Van Beethoven for years before Cracker . When this band took a long break, he formed Cracker with guitarist Johnny Hickman and bassist Davey Faragher. The first demo recordings were to be published later as "David Lowery Demo Mixes". In 1991 the band got a record deal with Virgin Records . Still without a permanent drummer, but with the help of Jim Keltner , Rick Jaeger and Phil Jones , a self-titled debut album was recorded, which was released in 1992. With Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now) the band had a chart hit on Billboard's “Modern Rock” charts.

Kerosene Hat , the second album released in 1993, hit the Billboard 200 and the single Low hit the UK charts. In the US, the album went platinum . In 1996 The Golden Age appeared with Bob Rupe as the new bass player. As before, this time three drummers took over the recordings: Charlie Quintana , Eddie Bayers and Johnny Hott . After a successful tour, the band took a two-year hiatus, during which Lowery took care of his Sound of Music studio in Richmond , Virginia and he did artists like Joan Osborne . who produced Counting Crows and Lauren Hoffmann .

With the 1998 work Gentleman's Blues , the group found a stable line-up for the first time. Frank Funaro joined the band as a permanent drummer and Kenny Margolis, an accordion player and keyboardist, also joined the band. Despite the reunion of Camper van Beethoven, Cracker remained active in the early 2000s. However, the band began to take on more and more project character and the musicians switched back and forth between the two bands. This was followed by a live album and the fifth and sixth albums Forever and O 'Cracker Where Art Thou? . In 2003 Cracker left Virgin and released the cover album Countrysides on Cooking Vinyl . In 2006 Greenland was released , their last album to date, Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey , reached the Billboard 200 again. The band then played for US troops in Iraq.
