Craig David Thomas (* 24. November 1942 in Cardiff , Wales ; † 4. April 2011 in Somerset ) was a British author of thrillers .

Craig Thomas was born in Cardiff in 1942 to journalist and author JBG Thomas . He attended Cardiff High School , studied at University College Cardiff and then taught English language and literature for several years . As a thriller author , he became known in 1977 with the work Firefox , template for the film of the same name by Clint Eastwood . Many consider him the inventor of the " techno-thriller ", a type of novel that was best known for Tom Clancy's novels, political and espionage thrillers with a high degree of technology orientation, which the authors mentioned were shaped by the arms race of the Cold War. So contains u. a. Thomas' series around the US pilot Mitchell Gant researched historical and technical details very carefully, which give the fiction of the novels a great inner authenticity.

In April 2011 he died of pneumonia that he contracted as a result of acute myeloid leukemia .
