Cramerton is a small town in Gaston County in the US state of North Carolina . According to the 2000 census , it had a population of 2,976 in an area of 10.0 km². The population density is 321 per km². Cramerton used to be called Maysworth .
geography
Cramerton lies on an elevation at 189 m. In the southwestern part of the urban area are the Berry Mountain with 281 m and the Cramer Mountain with 259 m.
According to data from the US Census Bureau , the urban area has an area of 10 km², including 0.7 km² (7.25%) of water. The Cramerton area is divided by the South Fork Catawba River , which flows around the city center.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, 2,976 people lived here; 1,169 households and 859 families were counted. The population density was 831 inhabitants per km². 1,229 residential units were recorded. The racial the population was composed of 94.1% White, 2.4% African American, 0.5% Native American, 1.9% Asian, and 0.2% from other races; 0.9% indicated the descent from several ethnic groups. Hispanic or Latino American descent was 0.4% of the population.
Of the 1,169 households, 35.4% had children or adolescents living with them. 60.7% were married couples living together, 9.8% were a single mother, and 26.5% were non-families. 22.2% were single households and 10.0% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.97.
The population was distributed among 25.9% under 18 years of age, 5.8% between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.7% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.1% between 45 and 64 years of age and 11.5% between 65 years of age or older.
