Cristina Spoerri (born July 4, 1929 in Tenero ; † October 1, 2013 in Reinach ) was a Swiss artist .
life and work
Spoerri grew up as the daughter of the painter and textile color expert Emil Sprenger (1883–1966) in Ascona . In 1949 Spoerri was a student of Professor Heuselmann in Lugano and in 1951/1952 she studied at the applied arts school in Zurich a . a. with Otto Morach and Johannes Itten . From 1952 she worked in her own studio in Zurich . In 1953 she had her first exhibition with the artist group Réveil at the Kunsthaus Zürich .
In 1957 she married the architect Bernhard Spoerri and settled in Reinach in 1960. Spoerri moved into a studio in the Basel studio cooperative in the Basel barracks . In 1964 Spoerri became a member of the Society of Swiss Women Painters, Sculptors and Craftsmen (GSBK). In 1976 she joined the Society of Swiss Painters and Sculptors (GSMBA) as an active member .
Exhibitions with Spoerri's participation took place at the Kunstmuseum Bern , Kunstmuseum Luzern , Kunsthaus Glarus , Helmhaus , Zurich, Musée Rath , Genève and Kunsthalle Basel . Spoerri was also able to exhibit her works in various galleries.
In 2008 the non-profit Cristina Spoerri Foundation was established. Sabine Schaschl is a member of the Board of Trustees . On the one hand, the foundation aims to preserve and publish the life's work of the founder Cristina Spoerri. Another goal is to provide financial support for young artists with a one-time grant. They should mainly live or work in the cantons of Baselland or Basel-Stadt.
